I know many people these days are struggling due to our economic crisis and more from job loss, etc. Well many men and woman don't have the funds to pay for a $50-$85 relaxer service, $150-$300 sew-in job, $75-$250 braids. You can get these services done at half the cost or even lower than expected. The solution: HAIR SCHOOLS. Many hair schools around the country offer low cost pricing for those services becuase the students are in school to learn and they need as many people they can get to learn a trade. Sometimes you will already have a few students that already have the skills and years of knowledge for hair or another service, but they are just in school to get certified and license. I went to a Paul Mitchell hair school here in Florida, and my relaxer service was only $25.00 and included a free style versus $75.00 at a salon for just a relaxer. The cons are that you will not get the best hairstyle service from an inexperienced student but the pro is the low pricing and teachers are there to advise the student in case there is a problem.

Box Braids

Box Braids is a type of hair extension which is rapidly growing in popularity. They’re similar to Micro Braids except for the fact that Box Braids use synthetic hair rather than natural hair. Box Braids consist of four-strand braids created by crossing opposing strands, one pair on top of the other. Since this is a difficult thing to do using only two hands, two braiding stylists are often required. Box Braids take about 6 to 12 hours to complete, and last several weeks when they are properly maintained.

Cornrows

Cornrows, also known as track braids or flat braids are braids that lay against the scalp. Made through a process of braiding and picking up hair along a row, they may be created using the person's own hair, or through the use of hair extensions.

They are said to have originated in Africa, and have the longest history there, but have also been depicted in art from ancient Greece as well as representations of Celtic women with elaborately braided styles on Roman coins.

In Yoruba art, the rows symbolize civilization, order, and agriculture. A woman with fine and complex cornrows and braids is seen as well cared for and from a strong family, as some styles take four to eight hours or more to complete.

They have been a constant in Africa for aeons, but in the US they were worn almost exclusively by Garvey-ists and those in "back to Africa" movements until the Black is Beautiful trend in the 1960's and 1970's.

They then enjoyed a somewhat brief phase of mainstream popularity in western cultures during the 1970's when Bo Derek wore them for a role in the movie 10. The trend was refreshed in the late 1990's and took off worldwide in 2000 when they, along with dreadlocks became a more often seen style on the Paris runways.

Country Plait

This kind of braiding is done by dividing hair into sections and then braiding each section separately. These braids are done close to the scalp, giving the hair a neat and sleek look.

Dreadlocks

Dreadlocks, sometimes called simply locks or dreads, are matted ropes of hair which will form by themselves if the hair is allowed to grow naturally without the use of brushes, combs, razors or scissors for a long period of time. Many religions and cultures specifically forbid the wearer to wash their hair, however, this is seen by the dreadlock community as an unfortunate stereotype. It is common for the wearer to perform thorough maintenance on their hair, including washing and various techniques of re-knotting, in order to maintain the desired appearance. Although the term 'dreadlock' was originally associated closely with the Rastafari movement community, people of various cultures have worn, and continue to wear, locks.

Kinky Twists

Kinky Twists is a two-stranded hairstyle in which the hair is woven into spirals. This look can be created using your own natural hair or by using synthetic, protein, pony or human extentions. Kinky Twists are known for their easy maintenance and take anywhere 4-5 hours to complete. Kinky Twists generally last up to three months with proper care.

Micro Braids come in a few different sizes and lengths and generally take 4-5 hours. There are several different types of hair that can be used for micro braids, human, protien, pony and synthetic. There are broadly two styles of braiding hair, Normal Hair Braiding and Micro Hair Braiding. Under this Micro Hair Braiding comes the style of black hair braiding.

Black hair braiding, highly popular among the African women, is usually done by attaching hair fibers or hair weaving. But you might be knowing that on an average African hair is weak and brittle. And you know, it is recommended to avoid micro braiding if the hair texture is weak. Micro braiding may cause severe hair breakage. Moreover, African hair needs extra care after the braiding hair procedure is complete.

Cornrows are regarded as one of the healthiest of all micro braiding styles, more so for black hair braiding. Cornrows lay flat against the scalp. Finding a decent salon to work in as a braider

It seems like whenever you obtain your hair braiding license in Florida, it's so hard to find a good shop to work in. I prefer to work somewhere where the shop offers incentives on retail items, field trips to hair shows, do vendor at a venue where our target audience is, have a nice food store nearby and perks.
